As U.S. authorities continue to tighten security along the U.S.-Mexico southern Land Border, Cartel Human Smugglers are increasingly turning to the waters off the California Coast. Recent news releases show the Coast Guard has intercepted sixteen smuggling attempts in the Pacific Ocean involving more than 240 illegal aliens so far this year.

They are joined by interceptor patrol boats manned by US Customs & Border Protection Marine Interdiction Agents, who had to shoot out the engine of one smuggling vessel that tried to outrun them on March 4, 2025:

The most recent smuggling attempt occurred on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, when the crew of the Coast Guard Cutter David Duren intercepted 19 aliens in a 25-foot cabin cruiser 23 miles off Oceanside, California, just after 2:00 AM.
Before that, the Coast Guard Cutters Sea Otter and David Duren intercepted another 18 aliens in two boats off Point Loma on Sunday, April 9, 2025.

In addition to the US Customs & Border Protection's Coastal Interceptors, the Coast Guard has been joined by US Navy Destroyers, which were first deployed to assist in the Southern Border Security Operation on March 15, 2025.
In at least one case, the cartel "captain" piloting the smuggling vessel was a repeat offender:

Should more be done to deter these illegal smuggling activities in U.S. waters?
