Incoming Border Czar: Migrants Race to Enter US Before Trump Takes Office
Tom Homan says a "migrant caravan" is heading for the US from Southern Mexico.
Tom Homan - who Donald Trump has selected as his "Border Czar" - says migrants have formed a "caravan" in Southern Mexico in the hope of crossing into the U.S. before Trump takes office:
"The first known caravan of migrants in 2025 has departed (January 2, 2025) from Tapachula, Chiapas in Mexico. Under President Claudia Sheinbaum, this is the 9th known caravan that is departing from southern Mexico. Their goal is to reach the border before President Trump takes office on January 20th. Caravans of people do tend to travel slower, so making the trek even to one of the closest points in the USA, like the Mc Allen-Hidalgo International Bridge, will take most of them about 16 days of actual walking. With needing to stop for sleep and to eating, it may take well over a month of traveling. I don’t expect them to make it. Unless they somehow catch a train or find a car to help them along the way. Let’s pray that they don’t find that train or car to help them!" -Trump "Border Czar" appointee Tom Homan (via x.com)
Meanwhile, other migrants continue trying to cross the border ahead of Trump's inauguration:
While those arrests continue by Texas State Police Officers, the US Border Patrol also continues to report apprehensions - including migrants wanted for other reasons than illegally entering the country:
In 2024, US Customs & Border Protection (including the US Border Patrol) reported encountering 2,135,005 migrants along the Southern Border with Mexico.
Is enough being done to secure the US Southern Border?
