Proposed US Border Security HQ Move to Texas Gains Support in Washington, DC
Trump "Border Czar" Tom Homan endorses idea
A Texas Congressman's proposal to move the US Customs & Border Protection (CBP) Headquarters from Washington, DC to the Lone Star State is gaining support within the incoming Trump Administration.
US Representative Keith Self (R-Collin County/Texas 3rd District) called for the move in a bill he filed on Monday, January 6, 2025.
Although President-Elect Donald Trump has not commented on the proposal, the man he named as his "Border Czar" - Tom Homan - has:
"This move would easily decentralize Washington bureaucracy, reduce operating costs, and (probably the most obvious reason) bring the agency closer to the front line of the border crisis. That would mean the secretary of the Department of Homeland Security would have until the first day of 2026 to move everything there, if signed into law. Who could not support this bill? It’s a very logical move." -Trump "Border Czar" Tom Homan (via x.com) January 8, 2025

Homan is a big fan of the Border Security efforts Texas Governor Greg Abbott has undertaken through "Operation Lone Star." During a Thanksgiving visit with Texas troops and State Troopers Homan called on other states along the border with Mexico to follow the Governor's lead:
"There is unprecedented success in Texas. This is the model we can take across the country. Everyone here needs to understand that you are national heroes and are saving the nation. What you have done has not only protected Texas and the citizens of Texas, you are protecting this nation." -Trump "Border Czar" Tom Homan (November 26, 2024)
Additionally, Texas has offered - and Homan has accepted - 1,402 acres the state recently purchased along the Rio Grande for construction of a federal "Mass Deportation Facility."
Given all that, it's no wonder Homan has been quick to endorse Congressman Self's proposed bill to relocate CBP's headquarters from Washington, DC to Texas.
“For four years, the Biden administration opened our southern border to over 10 million illegal aliens, including murderers, gang members, and suspected terrorists—forcing Texas to be their gateway. Under President Trump, CBP will immediately begin to seal our border and halt the flood of illegal aliens. Moving our CBP HQ to Texas is a practical step that will allow America’s Border Patrol agents to be on the ground at the critical point of the crisis.” -US Representative Keith Self (R-Texas) January 6, 2025

It might be enlightening for the headquarters to be in El Paso. What about a headquarters near the Canadian border? Did anyone consider that Abbott is buying Trump or visa versa? Maybe Lubbock or Amarillo could use the stimulus?
What are the plans to protect the people in the camps from natural disasters? Fire, floods, extreme heat? Having the headquarters in North Texas makes no sense and seems like a plan to get more dollars invested in a high priced metropolitan area.
