Border News: Texas Border: Cops Continue to Hit Cartels Hard
October was a big month for big border drug busts - continuing a trend that began in September.
State and Federal authorities along the Texas border with Mexico closed out October with some huge drug busts that cost cartel smuggling operations millions of dollars in profits.
The largest bust was made by Texas State Troopers assigned to the "Operation Lone Star" border security mission in Webb County (near Laredo):
During a traffic stop of a pick-up truck on I-35 Department of Public Safety (DPS) Highway Patrol Officers discovered a false compartment in the truck bed hiding 57 cellophane-wrapped bundles which contained 175 pounds of methamphetamine. The drugs have an estimated street value of $5,712,000. The Mexican citizen driving the truck faces several felony charges.
In Eagle Pass, U.S. Customs & Border Protection (CBP) Officers on the Camino Real International Bridge inspecting a tractor-trailer truck crossing into Texas from Piedras Negras, Mexico found 60 packages containing 162 pounds of cocaine. The street value of the drugs is $2,167,372.
Further south along the Rio Grande CBP Officers on the Brownsville and Matamoros International Bridge made a significant seizure while questioning a woman from McAllen, Texas arriving from Mexico. A CBP K9 showed an interest in the 2015 Nissan she was driving - leading to the discovery of more than 45 pounds of cocaine worth more than $600,000 she was attempting to smuggle into the country for one of the Mexican cartels.
Back in Eagle Pass, CBP Officers discovered $438,000 in cocaine and fentanyl a 78-year-old attempted to smuggle into the United States from Mexico.
These large drug busts follow more than $10 million dollars worth of drugs law enforcement officers up and down the Rio Grande seized from Mexican Cartel smugglers earlier in October. You can read more about that in an article I wrote HERE.
As costly a month as October has proven to be for Mexican Cartel drug operations, this month’s big busts follow even larger drug busts in September (including $18 million dollars worth of drugs seized in one day) thanks to State and Federal law enforcement officers along the Texas-Mexico border.
Do you believe enough is being done to combat cartel smugglers along the Texas - Mexico Border?
