Governor Greg Abbott promised Texas Troops and State Troopers assigned to the "Operation Lone Star" border security mission that more federal back-up will arrive once the Trump administration takes office.
Governor Abbott and incoming U.S. Border Czar Tom Homan thanked and served meals Tuesday to hundreds of Texas National Guard soldiers and Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers stationed along the border over Thanksgiving in Eagle Pass and Edinburg.
"Someone has to stand up for the rule of law, and the people who do that are the men and women of the Texas National Guard and the Texas Department of Public Safety. This mission is critical to our future. I have never been more proud of what you all have stepped up to do. During this time of Thanksgiving, we as Texans and Americans at the top of our list have thanks for you and the job you are doing today." -Texas Governor Greg Abbott (Nov. 26, 2024)
"There's help on the way," Governor Abbott told the soldiers and lawmen. "The cavalry is here, quite literally," he said as he introduced Trump's "Border Czar" Tom Homan.
Homan thanked the Texas troops and State Troopers for spending Thanksgiving away from their families to guard the border with Mexico. He also said what has been done to secure the Texas border through "Operation Lone Star" should be duplicated by other states along the entire U.S. Southern border:
"There is unprecedented success in Texas. This is the model we can take across the country. Everyone here needs to understand that you are national heroes and are saving the nation. What you have done has not only protected Texas and the citizens of Texas, you are protecting this nation." -Incoming U.S. "Border Czar" Tom Homan
Meanwhile, in Starr County, Texas Land Commissioner Dr. Dawn Buckingham announced her office plans to "locate all land under the agency’s jurisdiction that the federal government can use for the deportation operations of violent, criminal illegal immigrants."
The state has already offered - and Homan has accepted - 1,402 acres it recently purchased along the Rio Grande for construction of a federal "Mass Deportation Facility."
Meanwhile, there is more good news for the Texas soldiers and state law enforcement officers spending Thanksgiving away from their families. Fears of a possible "migrant rush" of the border before President-elect Trump assumes office have resulted in the state holding "mass migration drills" and highly visible "shows of force" along the border to send a message of deterrence to those on the other side of the Rio Grande contemplating crossing illegally.
On Tuesday, November 26, 2024, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum sent President-Elect Trump noting that “migrant caravans” are no longer reaching the US Southern Border.
Trump has threatened large tariffs on Mexican exports if those caravans make it to the US Border before he takes office.
Do you believe Mexico will prevent a "migrant rush" of the U.S. Border?
