Texas Border: Large Migrant Groups Continue Crossing from Mexico Into State
Hundreds of unaccompanied children are also crossing each week
Large groups of migrants made up of adults, families, and children without parents or other family members continue to illegally cross the Rio Grande from Mexico into Texas.
The latest mass crossing - of 176 migrants- was reported by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) on Sunday, December 1, 2024, in Maverick County. The DPS says the group included 11 "Special Interest Aliens" from Afghanistan.
"Special Interest Aliens" - according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) - "is a non-U.S. person who, based on an analysis of travel patterns, potentially poses a national security risk to the United States or its interests."
The DPS says 85 of those within the group of 176 migrants (from Afghanistan, El Salvador, Ecuador, Cuba, Colombia, Brazil, & Venezuela) were arrested on charges of criminal trespass. The DPS did not release the number of unaccompanied minors within the group.
NewsNation's Ali Bradley reports that the US Border Patrol is encountering -on average- "about 295 unaccompanied kids every day ... (and that) 315 unaccompanied minors were encountered at the southern border yesterday."
In the Del Rio Border Patrol Sector (in which the Maverick County migrant group was encountered by Texas DPS Officers) Bradley reports that the Border Patrol encountered 1,215 unaccompanied minors last month,
There are other significant migrant apprehensions in Texas to report as we begin a new month: In El Paso, the Border Patrol raided a cartel human smuggling "stash house" and - according to Border Patrol Chief Jason Owens - "rescuing 4 missing Mexican women & 38 others" with two migrant smugglers taken into custody.
The El Paso Border Patrol Sector has raided 244 stash houses in West Texas this year.
Elsewhere in the El Paso Sector, a group of migrants who illegally entered the US from Mexico attempted to evade Border Patrol Agents by wearing camouflaged clothing. As the photo above shows - the ruse did not work.
What more should be done to secure the U.S. Southern Border?
