Texas Ready for Migrant Border Rush, Governor Says
Troops train amidst worries of post-election mass migration attempts.
Governor Greg Abbott says Texas is ready to repel any "mass immigration" attempts should migrants attempt to rush its border before the Trump Administration takes office. The Governor's Office has posted video of Texas National Guard troops assigned to the "Operation Lone Star" border security mission conducting crowd-control training near the "Border Wall."
If the Texas troops are called upon to respond to any attempts to rush its border with Mexico - it won't be the first time force has been necessary to repel such an attempt. On March 21, 2024, Texas National Guardsmen were called upon to block a migrant mob who rushed a border crossing point in El Paso.
Nor was that an isolated incident. On August 8, 2023, a migrant mob in Matamoros, Mexico tried to rush an International Bridge to Brownsville. Authorities on the U.S. side closed their side of the bridge before the crowd could cross into Texas.
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) says they prepared for a potential migrant rush of the Texas border should one occur:
“We are closely monitoring. There are tens of thousands of immigrants waiting in southern Mexico (to see) what will happen and we anticipate a surge but Texas is ready.” DPS Lt. Chris Olivarez (via Fox News) October 31, 2024
Meanwhile, Texas continues to harden its borders to make it more difficult for migrants to illegally cross into the state. Troops assigned to "Operation Lone Star" continue to string razor and concertina wire at known crossing points along the Rio Grande.
While elsewhere along the border, construction crews hired by the State of Texas continue to expand the Border Wall. The state has built over 35 miles of new border wall inland of the river, north of its shared border with Mexico.
